Google may offer the fans to vote for the name of the new version of Android – iXBT.com

Google has never experienced any problems with the choice of “sweet” names for different versions of its mobile operating system Android.

The original creators of Android does not give new versions of any name. It was not until version of Android 1.1, which was called Petit Four, which translates as “petit-fours.” Android 1.5 version was named Cupcake («cake”), after which it was decided to give all subsequent versions of the names of some sweets and to use the remaining letters of the alphabet, one after the other. The result was:

  • Cupcake (1.5)
  •

  • Donut (1.6)
  •

  • Eclair (2.0-2.1)
  •

  • Froyo (2.2-2.2.3)
  •

  • Gingerbread (2.3-2.3.7)
  •

  • Honeycomb (3.0-3.2.6) [a]
  •

  • Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0-4.0.4)
  •

  • Jelly Bean (4.1-4.3.1)
  •

  • KitKat (4.4-4.4.4, 4.4W-4.4W.2)
  •

  • Lollipop (5.0-5.1.1)
  •

  • Marshmallow (6.0-6.0.1)
  •

Sundar Pichai (Sundar Pichai) recently visited the University of Delhi (Delhi University), where he talked with students and teachers. One of the students asked him a pretty funny questions about why Google does not use the names of traditional Indian sweets for the name of the new versions. For example, Android N can be named in honor of biscuits or rice pancakes Nankhatai Neyyapam, and Android P could mean dessert Peda.

What Sundar said jokingly at first, saying that he take an interest in the views of his mother on this. Then, a little more seriously, the head of Google hinted that the next time you select a name for the new version of Android, developers can seek help from the users of the operating system, conducting the vote.

Nutella, Nestle, Nesquik, Nougat … And what are the options for the new version of Android, which will be released next year, do you?
